School tours and playgrounds….

26 Aug

We got up Friday morning, made ourselves look semi-respectable and headed off to meet the principal of St. Angela’s Elementary school, Ms Wanda Spooner.  A Polish lady who had arrived a few weeks ago from Galway was already in with her, and another Irish woman arrived while we were waiting.  So Wanda took us all on a tour of the school, which opened out from a central atrium.  It was lovely, very spacious, with wide corridors, a big gym, a well-stocked library, an environmental room with a bearskin, a tarantula and snakes (shudder), a sensory room for those who can’t sit still, and an art & science room.  All the kids were enthralled by it all – every room Wanda opened by met by oohs and aahs – she must have thought we were still being taught in hedge schools in Ireland.  She sent them all off to the gym and gave them hockey sticks etc., while the adults got down to the business of forms and grades etc.  Christopher and Isabel will be in Grade 4, Benjamin in Grade 3 and Nicholas in Grade 1.  They have recess morning and afternoon and  lunch from 11.45am to 12.35pm.  They can come home for lunch, which saves me the whole packed lunch horror in the mornings.

We went out that evening to the park right beside us, and played on the swings etc. for a while.  Here’s a video of Friday night in Saskatoon:

Sounds great, when do the lads start school? Bree starting this thursday, happy days, will have to wait and see after all the changes, what is going to happen. Everything seems to be slotting into place for you, but I bet it is still like a big adventure for the lads. Starting college myself next Monday, abit nervous 🙂 . Should be fine though. Keep the blogs coming is great to be a part of your move.

They start on Wednesday 5th September, so an extra week’s holidays for them! I can’t believe it’s back-to-school time already for everybody – interesting times ahead with all the changes. I’ll be looking forward to hearing how it’s all going. Best of luck with college on Monday, you’ll be grand! It’ll be a bit of craic heading off every morning with your lunch and schoolbag. I hope Paddy is keeping well. Let me know how you get on next week xx

I’m sure kids cant wait to start school if they have all those facilities. We’ll just toddle back to our little prefabs in the cold on the wet muddy grass and strip our kids in the car-park again!!!!

Oh Angela! You’re forgetting about all the new building going on – it’ll be wet, muddy and full of concrete dust – you’ll be stripping and power-hosing them down in the car park…..
